Read Susie's Tips and Tricks below
1. Saute onion in a small drizzle of oil. Add chopped bacon and cook until slightly crispy.
2. While bacon and onion is cooking, mix in a small bowl: whiskey, ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, molasses, ginger, garlic, a smattering of fresh pepper, and white vinegar.
3. Once onion is soft and bacon is crisp to your liking, add the beans to your pan and heat up. Now mix in your ketchup/molasses mixture. Heat and serve. Alternatively, if you want the flavours to marry longer, bake covered at 325 F for approximately 30 minutes.
Susie's Tips and Tricks
Add more molasses if desired. If you prefer a tangier flavour profile, add more vinegar.
If you're in a hurry, you can heat in the microwave. I have found it still tastes quite good.
