I saw this recipe in an old book. I made some adjustments that I believe highlight this delicious 2 lb loaf.
Ingredients
2 large eggs
2- 10 oz pkg broccoli with cheese sauce from (2-283 g)the freezer, defrosted and lightly heated up
6 tbsp minced onion, I used red (90 mL)
2 tbsp butter, soft, chopped 30 mL
4 cups bread flour (480g)
2 tsp salt (10 mL)
1 tsp no salt chicken bouillon powder (5 mL)
2 tsp dry mustard powder
1/2 tsp black pepper (2 mL)
2 tbsp dry cheddar powder (30 mL)
2-3 tsp dry parsley flakes (for color)5-10mL
2 tsp instant yeast (6g / 10 mL)
Instructions
2 lb loaf
Please read Susie's Tips and Tricks below.
Warm up the broccoli cheddar slightly in microwave on a plate. Chop the broccoli up in small pieces. (See pic below) Heat 2-3 mins.
Place all warmed ingredients in order of manufacturer's instructions. Use the Basic setting. Watch the dough during first 4-5 minutes. You may need to add a bit of flour or liquid.
Remove the bread from the pan and place on a cooling rack. Wait for it to cool fully before slicing. I know. It's hard to wait. You want the bread to solidify and set up. Enjoy!
Susie's Tips and Tricks
Warm shelled eggs in some hot tap water for 5-10 minutes.
If you don't have no-salt chicken bouillon powder cut the salt in half.
This dough ball needs attention. Don't just walk away. Check it at 4-5 minutes to see that it is smoothish (it's got brococli bits) and slightly tacky. If necessary add a tsp of water or flour at time as it mixes.
Did you notice there isn't any sugar in this recipe? Yeast does not need sugar to work. Flour contains carbohydrates that it can feed on. Undoubtedly, the cheese sauce mixture has some sugars in it as well. Traditional French bread has no sugar.
