Black Pepper and Onion biscuits

These quick biscuits are a perfect side with some hot soup. If you want guidance for biscuit making, check out the post here. I included black pepper and crispy onion to add some extra panache. You could sprinkle some Parmesan on top for added flavour.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup onion, finely diced

  • oil

  • 2 cups ap flour

  • 4 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp fresh black pepper

  • 2 tbsp shortening

  • 1/4 cup milk

  • 3/4 cup water

  • 1/3 cup Parmesan, optional

Instructions

Read Susie's Tips and Tricks below

1. Preheat oven to 450F.

2. Saute onion in a drizzle of oil until slightly crispy and tender. Set aside and prepare dry mix.

3. In a medium bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and black pepper.

4. Cut shortening into the flour (breaking it up into small pieces).

5. Add onions and blend in. Now add liquids, gently and quickly mixing it all together.

6. Place portions on a greased baking sheet and bake on middle rack until lightly browned; approximately 10-14 minutes. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese (optional).

7. Remove from baking sheet and enjoy.

Make sure your baking powder is fresh.

Don't over-blend the mixture; you don't want a tough biscuit.

Quickbread biscuits don't last and tend do get stale; they are best consumed the same day.
