I believe food brings families, friends, and strangers together. Food is the language we all speak in varying dialects, and I'm passionate about finding new ways to speak "Food". My life is filled with caring for my family, hitting the gym, and cooking. My energy is focused on preparing fresh, healthy and cost-conscious meals.

I grew up in the middle of vast orchards of fruit trees and farmland in Southeast British Columbia, Canada. My brothers, sister and I, were raised on food grown in our own gardens, instilling a deep appreciation for healthy, fresh foods. Summer yield was canned for the winter months and the fragrance of freshly baked breads or cookies seemed to waft through the house every day as I arrived home from school. Cooking became an obsession.

I spent the next twenty-plus years learning everything I could about quality cooking from every source possible. Before the internet became "a thing", I had well over 1,000 recipe and cook books. I put on dinner parties, catered and tutored under anyone with a similar passion. Thousands of hours have been spent perusing food blogs, trading information with culinary experts and researching foods from around the world. With a strong foundation of knowledge and experience, I attended culinary school, soaking up all of the training my chef could provide.

I consider myself a practical chef, choosing to emphasize ingredients that are available to anyone, avoiding overly processed foods. My recipes focus on fresh, healthy ingredients that can be easily acquired when managing to a budget. I have all sorts of tricks up my sleeves to lower calories, substitute ingredients and build outstanding flavor.

I love the science behind cooking and look to develop the best recipes with a reasonable amount of effort and time. Having learned so much from so many, this website was created to pass along ideas, recipes, and opinions to others that have their own culinary dreams. As such, I provide not just recipes, but instructions for becoming a better home chef with valuable techniques and principles for cooking fantastic foods.
